Right? it always seems like “be critical of your interests” is code for “you’re not allowed to have fun”.
It also feels super performative. Like jesus christ nobody should care. And the fact that people who say it also freak out when people are like “um actually since you like this Irredeamable Media you cant consume critically” and yeah.

It’s the hypocrisy that kills me every time.
it also just feels like thinly veiled controlling behavior. to blogs that do this you don’t get to pressure someone to make their critical opinions public. some people choose not to and that’s okay. they’re under no moral obligation to get too publicly involved in media critical discourse. and you just have to learn to deal with it like you were doing before you got roped up into this toxic mentality.
