ooc. i just felt like sending this too. you can read in private or publish, i don’t really care, whatever you’re most comfortable with, but i wanted to say that after taking a look at your blog (and i’m still reading), i wanted to simply say that i appreciate some of your posts for many reasons. first of all, i can tell that you are an adult. and you are very diplomatic yet straight forward and not beating about the bush how you feel about discourse online. now, while i, personally, set myself certain boundaries how far i want to take jafar in my stories (i would never ship him with jasmine for example), i would never remotely dare tell other people, let alone accuse someone, of writing or liking or shipping what i don’t write or like or ship. like you say ship and let ship. live and let live. it is beyond me why people can’t just block and move on if they come across something that triggers them. why does everyone nowadays have to morally educate, ethically indoctrinate other people on the internet? total strangers at that? there is a german saying over here that goes “abschalten kommt von abschalten” abschalten means both to relax and to turn off. “to relax means to turn off (the internet for example)”. it wasn’t that crazy being part of ANY fandom in the early 2000s. it has gradually become part of everyone’s unwanted identity somehow to walk on eggshells around anyone. bc you miiiiight trigger someone. honestly? i’m tired. and being over thirty myself, i’m too old to care anymore. sometimes i still get sent anonymous hate but i am glad that most people enjoy what i do. i made the mistake to delete blogs in the past because of hate but i won’t delete jafar. i’m actually quite proud of all of my in-depth headcanons and how much i have developed him so far. that’s all i wanted to say :)
Thank you for sharing this, and I really appreciate your words.
It is really bizarre to me how fandom has changed, especially in the last ten years, to this expectation that someone will somehow always be comfortable with all the content other fans create.
Fans have always been weird, and that’s great. Some of us get along, and some of us don’t. but I always appreciate when people who don’t like what I’m doing just block me– and I try to do the same as well.
(also your blog rocks 💖)
