This post really shows how our experience and perspective can bias us all, because here’s a fancop from aa pro-censorship country expressing pro-censorship views and observing that they believe all proshippers to be disgusting Americans.
Meanwhile what I have seen the most of is people from foreign countries observing that “antiship” is a weird puritan American thing and that everyone from their own country is capable of minding their own business and being normal about fiction.
all i got from this was “sometimes being oppressed by the state is good” im ngl
I have to agree with antishipping being seen as something “imported”. For many years I have never seen people yelling about ships with age gap, shipcest or generally “problematic” content until a few months ago when, out of nowhere, I was harrassed by a much younger person because I liked a “problematic” ship (and it’s a rarepairing, btw). Many years ago, when interacting with people outside of the country wasn’t anything big yet (at least for the people of the same age as me), everyone was minding own business. Of course I’m not saying that interacting with people from the outside is a bad thing, I’d be a hypocrite. I’m just sharing my point of view.
