Hey there I hope you’re having a good day! 🤠 Sorry to like bug you but somethings been on my mind. I have this friend who is a great friend but once fandom comes up she’s… Scary. She’s an anti. I can’t tell her I’m proship (woo woo closet proship lol). But we’ll be fine and then all of a sudden I’ll mention a show and she’s like mmm so everything is toxic let me explain. And it’s rants about so much. My favorite one is her telling me that she cut off her friend from another country because she shipped spamano and she’s 30 she should know better. Know better what? What the- they’re fictionalized versions of countries who gives a shit. I have no idea how she survived our Fandom in the 2010s (which I will admit was literal hell and awful at times!!) She literally was dictating what ships are okay and which ones are nasty. For like an hour. And then she’s always saying her other ex friend is a predator for liking a comedy anime that takes place in a hs. I can’t make this shit up it’s WILD. She’s a great person outside of fan(dumb) and I usually steer the conversation away from it I’m like haha yeah… Anyways what smoothie (or whatever) are you getting? I can never tell her about the goofy shit my best friend and I wrote as kids all the way til now (we rebooted our old story) cause it’s not puritanical and ugh. Idk.
I’m so sorry to hear that, anon, that sounds like an unpleasant situation to be in.
It’s always okay to be friend with someone who doesn’t share all your views, but it sounds like this friend might not feel the same way.
I would never tell you to break off a friendship you’re happy with but you might consider how your friend’s hostility and controlling urges in fandom might be affecting that friend’s judgement in other ways.
