This may sound like a really stupid question (because it probably is one) but what exactly is wrong about Stockholm syndrome? I mean like at the stage where it’s in full force. I also don’t mean in fiction (at least not solely) but also in rl. This probably sounds very evil or bad or sth. Buy I never truly understood what is so deeply bad about it. I personally am of the opinion that everybody should be allowed to do whatever they want, as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone (unconsensually). And yes Stockholm syndrome starts out forced but in the end the victims seem kinda happy? Idk it just always seemed almost cruel to me to rip people away from what makes them happy. Does that make sense? (I promise this is no troll or anything. This is just a genuine question I’ve had for a while now. Idk. My mind [and my deception of romantic] works in weird ways. That or my probably not very reliable sources about Stockholm syndrome truly romanticised it).
What’s wrong with stockholm syndrome, indeed.
To begin with, many/most actually psychologists don’t actually consider “stockholm syndrom” to be an actual thing.
If you’re interested I reccomend starting with taking a look at the “criticism” section of the wikipedia article– which takes up most of the page! 🤣
