My hottest, most burning, most divisive take that I’m willing to share publicly is that “maladaptive daydreaming” (which is not an actual diagnosis) is an extremely harmful term used to punish, suppress and shame creative, inventive and neurodiverse people for not being useful drones for capitalist labor.
well, i am diagnosed with it, and maladaptive daydreaming is about losing literal patches of your life because youre too occupied drowning youself into your own thoughts to cope.
i can’t function right, it is tiring and stressing and pretending like it isnt a problem is not going to get me the hours and hours i lost of my life because i was too sad/too scared to think properly.
also, i was making a joke lol thinking about fake tumblr scenario “what if my ttrpg was actually a big show” for literal hours on end and being unable to stop was very tiring for me and i got a few things postponed because of it. the thought behind it was interested enough tho so i decided to share??
Pal, I said it was gonna be divisive, and I meant it.
I know there are people who find it a useful way to describe themselves and the problems they have. And that is fine.
You (specific you, and also general you) are always the person who knows yourself best and gets to decide when something counts as a disorder.
I just don’t like it when authority figures use words like that to make children feel shame and for things that the child doesn’t feel like are a problem.
For context, I have some pretty serious medical, doctor and psychiatrist related trauma I am still working through.
