This is what I’m talking about when I say the moral panic around kink and fantasy is a right wing position:
The idea that someone’s fantasies or what art they like is an indicator they are a dangerous predator is fearmongering and it specifically targets queer people. The “exposing” of people for their sexuality is a tool of the right to smear someone’s name as a sexual deviant, and therefore, someone worthy of punishment and exile. There is nothing leftist about this behavior. If you participate in this kind of “exposing” of “pedophiles” you need to reexamine who you’re benefiting and what kind of mentality you’re falling into.
A lot of people found it ridiculous that I would compare anti kink with the right wing, but there continues to be evidence of just that. The furry community has been falling for clear far right rhetoric with the latest example being this:
The use of the term “degenerate,” SS runes in the background, red and black colors, and the coloration of the wolf being impaled make it clear this image is spreading far right rhetoric. This is a call for violence against those perceived to be “degenerates.” This is a political message built purely on disguist and seeks to justify violence by depicting certain groups as an “other” and therefore deserving of being targeted.
I bring this up here not to bring back old drama but because I have a platform here and I urge everyone to be extremely critical of who their bedfellows are. Many furries are defending this image because it targets the same people they don’t like. This is also happening at a time when AO3 is being targeted by a far right group whose position is also to take down “degenerate” art. Many self identified leftists are agreeing with fascist rhetoric and tolerating fascists in their spaces as long as they spew violence against an “acceptable” group, which is exactly what we see groups like TERFs doing.. Accusing people of being zoophiles or pedophiles willy nilly and associating them with queer expression is what they want from the left.
So now that a man committed suicide on tiktok over false pedophile accusations and a disabled artist is choosing end of life care because they lost their job and health insurance over online callouts can we stop accusing everyone of being a predator?
