where do you fall on hate speech?
First off– I don’t think that any material that is presented to its audience as a work of fiction can be considered hate speech.
Hate speech is harassment, insults, threats, “jokes”, anecdotes, speeches, calls to action (whether subtle or overt), distortions of true facts which deliberately attempt to present false narrative of reality, and other types of speech that are directed at real people and presented as relevant to the real world.
Since I do not believe fiction constitutes hate speech, I don’t believe that works of fiction should be restricted as hate speech.
However, as far as actual hate speech is concerned I believe that there are genuinely strong and compelling arguments both on the side of protecting hate speech, and the side of restricting hate speech.
I don’t feel qualified to decide that particular serious moral quandary on my “being horny about suffering” blog.
