Things I wished we as a society learnt from the “videogames cause violence” days1. Fiction does not work that way, ever. There is a very REAL difference between fantasy, in a controlled environment where nobody gets hurt. And taking actions to genuinely hurt sentient beings. 2. Heinous acts in this world such as violence are more complex than just ONE cause, if somebody is trying to censor something. They usually are trying desperately to ignore what role the status quo has in perpetuating these things because it serves them in some way. What we actually learnt from “video-games cause violence”1. Violence in fiction is definitely okay, but we should fall for R/dfem conservative nonsense about sexuality in fiction because sex makes me feel icky and violence does not. 2. You’re a freak for not being violently squicked/ uncomfortable by the things that make me feel uncomfy.
If only we had learned the right lessons.
Unfortunately now we have a bunch of fandom “Jack Thompson"s running around.
