for the most part “this story about teenagers in high school should be about adults instead” just translates to “My personal comfort zone won’t let me enjoy a story without feeling socially guilty that I’m emotionally connecting with characters that are written as younger than me.”
This also ignores that high school is an extremely relatable experience for a huge demographic of people. Most people went to high school, and can relate to the experience of going to high school– including the demographic of teenagers!
Whereas, if you take the same story and then bash it into shape to make it about adults now, you’re alienating the teenagers, who your story was originally aimed at, by writing an experience they now cannot relate as well to.
