People who use the term “proship” to describe themselves use it to mean “ship and let ship.”
People who use the term “proship” to describe themselves use it to mean “I ship what I want to ship, and I don’t harass other people over what they ship.”
Some people who use the term “proship” to describe themselves are also people who ship minor x adult.
The term “proship” as self-applied does not mean that you ship minor x adult.
Pro-censorship fans use the term “proship” as an insult against other fans and use it to mean “people who ship anything I find objectionable.” In order to get away with this they will tell you that “proship means pedophile.” Some of them even actually believe this.
It was this exact thing that made me an anti for so long. I was an anti for like 2 years At Least. It was only like 6ish months ago (time is a construct I do not understand so be lenient with me here) that I learned what being a prosper actually is
It is very important for proshippers to keep explaining what we actually believe, because without that I would still be feeling hate not only at other people, but also at myself for the stuff I wanted to read about (I read darker fics sometimes because it helps me cope with some of my own experiences to see a character I love go through it, I can explain more on that later if someone wants that).
The stuff that anti’s say are damaging. They may come from a place of genuine care and concern, but at the end of the day it isn’t helpful, and we need to start countering the false information they are spreading
It is so important we start countering the false info they’re spreading. I have seen so many of them insist that if you think something, you want to do that thing. These people fail to realise how awful and damaging this is to those who struggle with intrusive thoughts(NOT impulsive thoughts)like myself.
It’s not just unhelpful, it is downright harmful.
On top of that, it doesn’t save near as many lives from trauma as they really like to insist it does— it mostly ever does the opposite.
2020 was the year I stopped believing I was an anti, and that was after antis harassed and attacked me over something that wasn’t even true. They accused me of terrible things— things I myself was victim of, even. I was demonised. All for aging characters up in an AU that took place years after the main events of a game series. If it weren’t for me moving to a different fandom, I really believe my mental state would have been destroyed beyond repair. They nearly ruined me over something as simple as a what if scenario.
Antis only call Proshipping “adult x minor” because they want you to ignore the fact that they harass people who don’t even fall under their own damn definition of Proshipping. They really, truly don’t care if that’s true or not when they label you with it. It’s a term that causes a strong reaction that can make people jump to conclusions instead of properly looking into the matter themselves— which is what they want.
I identify with neither term regardless of which one I fit more, but I have no problems pointing out the glaring flaws in what Antis do, and I really no longer care if I lose followers for that.
