I think I figured it out. I think I figured out the origin of the huge flood of spam, as well as why we’re suddenly being followed by a number of new, avatar-less but seemingly legitimate blogs.
Tumblr is suggesting our blog to people when they sign up.
There’s some tag or keyword that people are picking when they sign up for tumblr that is suggesting our blog as one to follow.
I think when you start a brand new account it has you follow some tags first, so if the tags they choose to follow are ones you frequently post in, tumblr might spit your blog out to them on the account creation page
Yes that’s exactly how I understand the situation, and that’s why i think it must be the case that it’s happening to our blog.
