( No Title )
I wish more people in fandom understood (or would make the distinction between) a character who is queer coded, and a character they have a queer reading for.
I think that many fans do understand the difference, but insisting that a character is queer coded gives them a feeling of the right to enforce their interpretation on others in a way that a queer reading does not.
Phoenix Wright isn’t queer coded.
You can absolutely interpert him or headcanon him as queer (I certainly do), but he hits absolutely zero of the tropes or elements of a queer coded character.
You can make an argument for Miles Edgeworth being lightly queer coded, but it largely is dependent on western styles and tropes of queer coding and western expectations of masculinity, rather than Japanese ones.
