I think that I’m the last man on earth who actually knows or cares that there’s a difference between the ASMR phenomenon, and the fetish content youtube genre that hijacked the name.
What videos are you watching that makes you think the genre is a fetish????
I’m not.
I experience the ASMR effect naturally in the wild and find it weird and not a sensory experience I’m inclined to seek out.

Ah fair enough. I myself don’t experience it I just watch ASMR videos to help get to sleep.
That’s kind of exactly my point.
The content of the videos that call themself “ASMR” are completely divorced from the actual autonomous sensory meridian response that they’re named after.
Nobody is watching these videos to actually trigger their ASMR at this point. They are watching them for other reasons.
Nobody is making these videos that are called “ASMR” to trigger the ASMR effect– they are creating them for other reasons.
I called them “fetish” specifically because that was the term someone reblogged my previous post using.
