How do you think popularized media (as in series, movies, etc) should approach more “””problematic””” subjects? Do you think it could be held to the “do whatever you want” status or should it be more sensible because of their reach? (Like 13 reasons why with mental health portrayal, game of thrones with incest, twilight etc)This isn’t hate! I just really like your posts and wanted to know if you have an opinion on the subject. Sorry for any inconvenience!
No inconvenience at all, anon!
My opinion is that “popular media”– that is, commercial, heavily distributed media, already experiences heavy restrictions.
Films in a movie theater are given a rating based on their content. Movie theaters won’t allow a film to play if it doesn’t receive a rating, or if it is rated too highly. This is why you don’t see pornography in movie theaters.
Television shows also have ratings (TV-13, etc) and often specific content warnings.
Comic books that are above a certain level of sexuality and violence are labeled as such.
Video games are rated, and have content warnings.
I don’t think there’s anything else we need to be doing.
