Some time ago I asked: “which ship is more popular?” with the options being Krispollo and NaruOdo. Most of the people who saw the poll picked Krispollo which is… THE WRONG ANSWER. It’s actually NaruOdo that is much more popular, especially on Pixiv (there are over 800 works tagged as OdoNaru and over 400 tagged as NaruOdo against 90 KiriOdo and 4 OdoKiri). For me the reason seems to be crystal clear – though Kristoph was Apollo’s mentor (and the villain of AA4), their relationship was completely ignored by canon, but the thing can also be the fact that both Phoenix and Apollo are the POV characters and there was a lot of ship tease between them from the start, while there’s like 0 of that for Kris and Apollo (imo it would be a total exaggeration to consider both trusting each other as a ship tease).
It obviously doesn’t mean that one of the ships is worse or better. Everything to everyone’s tastes. I personally like both (with Krispollo being my preferred ship).
Also, a fun fact: if you checked Apollo’s tag on AO3, you’d see that the oldest ship fics (at least from the slash ones) for him are both Krispollo.
