I don’t want to talk too much about child abuse directly on my blog, mainly because it tends to attract bad faith arguments, and occasionally the tumblr staff banhammer–
But yes, exactly. The people who want to make it an unbreakable taboo to write fiction about child abuse want to make it impossible for us to write about our experiences and process them through the lens of fiction.
They want– and are facilitating the creation of a world– in which victims are shamed into suffering in silence, and forced into an isolated world where they are the only victim of this horrible crime.
If a crime that is never spoken about, that is too shameful to describe, that is never reflected in fiction happens to you, then suddenly you are the only person in the world who it has happened to. You have no way to reach out and understand and have community with other survivors.
People who want a crime to be so taboo it is never spoken about do not want to hear the words of victims.
Victims make them uncomfortable.
Victims who cope with their abuse in ways that feel icky to them make them especially uncomfortable.
