back in the day™ I’d see a crowd of people who’d say they found klavier a boring rival character bc right off the bat he’s nice and generally likes apollo whereas prosecutors before him were much more adversarial which created tension. and while I understand that sentiment I ultimately disagree with it.
huge thematic through-line in the game so far is not realising the people closest to you, the people you thought you knew could be capable of horrific things. this was literally exemplified in kristoph who was kind, personable and caring up until he wasn’t, revealing someone who was actually extremely cold and calculating. and then you run into klavier, literally kristoph’s brother, and we also learn he was the prosecutor on the case that got phoenix disbarred.
with of that and that kristoph’s literally in prison bc of apollo, honestly klavier has every reason at this point to dislike him. and yet, he’s also kind, personable and caring. which I think could lead a first time player, esp someone who’s already played the original trilogy and knows how prosecutor characters are “supposed” to be, to question why. is he really just this inexplicably nice, or is there a darker reason behind it? is he just like his brother? the last two cases were both about how sweet appearing people can use that to deceive you, so why should you trust the disposition of this two good to be true “nice” prosecutor? it’s a different kind of intrigue than the type that came with previous prosecutors, but still intrigue for sure.
