It bothers me how people will be like “go to therapy!!!” And then get upset when someone’s coping method is unusual. Like it’s harmless, a therapist probably isn’t going to disapprove either since the focus is on mitigating actively damaging symptoms.
They’re doing it because it isn’t Progressive anymore to inform someone they’re going to burn in hell. They want the serotonin high of being Morally Pure And Going To Heaven, without the backlash. Going to therapy is still stigmatized enough that these people STILL seem to think it will just “fix” someone (aka like conversion therapy), and therefore it feels like a good thing to yell at someone who isn’t “normal” enough.

therapy doesn’t magically “cure” things you don’t personally like about the person you’re having an internet argument with. what therapy actually does is teach coping mechanisms right for you personally to live comfortably and happily. these guys are idiots.
