I’m so happy to see people are finally speaking out against the bullying in the fandom. The worst part of it are the unfounded accusations that people are supposedly pedophiles for just writing fanfiction (even if characters are aged-up) or writing/thinking anything that is not considered pure. No matter the topic a fanfic contains, you don’t know the reason why people are writing them. Escapism, coping mechanism, exploring character dynamics, people write stories for several reasons.
That is why tags exists, so you can block and avoid stuff you don’t like. If what someone writes makes you uncomfy it is your right to block them. Unless they actively go out of their way to contact you and share their stories with you that is the best course of action. If they harass you, report them (especially if you are a minor, so that adults can help you).
Do not go out of your way to search for people writing or liking stuff you don’t like and harass them for it. Because that makes you the scary, creepy and mean person that makes fandom a bad and uncomfy place to be at.
Be aware, too, that if you call someone a pedo for writing fanfic that that is slander and a crime (unlike writing fictional stories). The same goes for doxxing people or telling them to kill themselves.
I mean how far has it come that actively seeking out and harassing people who never even interacted with you (nor want to) is seen as good behaviour?
If people upload their story to ao3 with proper warnings just avoid it. Simple as that.
I said it before and i repeat it: if you are warned that a story contains topics you don’t want to read and you still read it, it was you who disrespected yourself and your boundaries, so there’s nobody else to blame than you. Leave fanfic writers alone.
