The experience of being queer is not inherently sexual. That is undoubtedly true and it is queerphobic to assume and reduce queerness to being sexual. With that being said, however, there is a culture of control surrounding sex, pleasure, interpersonal relationships and sexual expression that heavily aligns with the suppression of queer expression in any form. Allowing people to engage however they’d like with sexual eroticism granted that all parties participating have consent and can give consent is a huge factor in deconstructing the conservative culture of control surrounding pleasure and what people can do with their bodies. Policing people’s sexual expressions absolutely goes hand in hand with suppressing queer culture and joy.
