Sorry, post limit or I’d reply in a reblog. For me, characters get that way as soon as they have an established “self” in my mind. With fanfiction they’re already like that, and if they aren’t like that I need to study them a bit and get them like that to be able to write them correctly. Fics only start with a general starting point and then just *go*, I kinda play DM and transcriber by controlling the worldspace and “NPCs”.
Yup. This a relatively common but still atypical experience to have. What it means to you, and what level of autonomy these characters have is up to you to decide.
