The tape snaps on with the grainy buzz of video. The color on the tape is over-saturated, with high contrast, and buzzes of video static obscure bits of it now and again. All the angles are high and wide– flipping between the views of security cameras.
There’s no sound.
A view of a busy city street. Big cars with wide fronts slowly roll through traffic.
An anonymous black car pulls up to the sidewalk, and five men in black coats and hooded masks get out of it. They hurry toward the camera, and out of its view.
Cut to:
The interior of a bank, its wide floors polished marble. Customers standing in lines for the tellers behind the counter at the far wall of the vast expanse of wealth. Five masked figures in black coats step in through the glass doors.
All of them raise guns. One of them fires a shot.
Cut to:
Another angle of the bank floor. Now all of the customers are belly down on the ground, while three of the masked men mill around them pointing guns.
A wide-bodied customer suddenly leaps up– a security guard– and one of the masked men strikes him across the face with the butt of his gun. He knocks the man to the ground and delivers a savage, and bloody beating, not stopping until the man ceases to resist.
Cut to:
A high angle looking down on the bank teller from behind as she puts wads of bills into a bag. Her hand goes for an alarm, but the hooded man in front of her pushes a gun to her forehead. She puts both her hands on the counter.
Cut to:
Two masked figures in black coats dragging a man in a suit and glasses across the floor to a locked door.
Cut to:
A cement bank vault. One of the masked men is screaming at the man in the suit– he has a gun pointed at him, and his heel pressed to his chest.
The other masked man waves admonishingly to the first. He takes something out of a bag, and presses it to the bank vault.
They both drag the man in the suit out of frame of the camera.
The whole view explodes.
Cut to:
The masked men climbing back into the black car, holding stuffed full bags. The car peels off through traffic, nearly rear-ending someone.
Cut to:
A close up shot from inside the car. This can’t be security footage, but it’s shot the same way anyway.
One of the masked men– the one whose coat is covered in blood– pulls off his mask. Bright red hair and an even brighter grin face the camera .He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a pack of cigarettes. He lights his, and passes more cigarettes around as the men congratulate one another.
The image holds on the reflection of the red-head’s grin and his cigarette in the car’s window.
An especially jolting cut to:
The redhead in a dingy basement, where a man is mostly naked, tied to a chair and covered in sweat and vomit.The redhead beats him with a wrench while two sour looking men in expensive suits watch.
An especially jolting cut to:
The redhead following a man in a suit down a dark alleyway at night. He pulls a gun, and says something that makes the man he’s following turn around. The redhead shoots. The man falls.
An especially jolting cut to:
The redhead face down on a bar somewhere, fingers laced around the neck of a bottle of beer.
An especially jolting cut to:
The same bar, the redhead is in the middle of a brawl with a shirtless man, striking him across the face and head with the bottle.
An especially jolting cut to:
The redhead standing over a pair of graves on a hilltop. His face is covered in blood, and he has an empty liquor bottle with him.
Cut to:
The black car where the masked men are celebrating. The redhead takes a long puff of his cigarette and blows smoke that obscures the camera’s view.
