Here’s the hell of it.
I know this is hard to accept, but–
Prior to the modern era, heterosexual incestuous and pedophilic relationships actually enjoyed much more cultural acceptance than homosexual relationships in both real life and fiction.
That’s why you see lots of pre-modern novels where siblings and cousins are getting married, and where old men are marrying young women they literally raised as their daughters–
–While you see many fewer pre-modern novels were two characters of the same sex are in a directly stated romantic relationship.
In many places, at many times, large age gaps, child marriage, and incestuous marriages between heterosexual couples have prior to our modern era enjoyed more respect, dignity, and romantic celebration than homosexuality ever did.
You can find examples of incest and pedophilia in the christian bible, and they are not condemned.
There’s a reason queer love specifically is referred to as “the love that dare not speak its name.”
(ward against bad faith readings: I am not saying this is a good thing.)
