I hate the complaints about the lack of femslash because they fundamentally miss the POINT.
The problem isn’t that people are sexist and homophobic, so there’s less wlw.
Its more, people are sexist and homophobic, and to combat that every femslash fic is treated like social commentary.
It is never just “this is a character that is a lesbian” it is “this character shouldn’t fall into negative stereotypes, as well as accurately represent things the author might not know, since they are a representation of how the author sees lesbians.”
And while I adore political commentary, it is homophobic to expect queer relationships to be held to a higher standard than straight relationships ever would be.
By trying to make femslash this pure ideal of itself, they are ironically preventing it from being normalized.
It is not like we complain about a lack of left-handed representation- because outside of historical fiction, it shouldn’t matter!
