I just want to talk a little about how people know don’t about comship. Like, ether people belive that it’s the same as proship, think it is anew word for proship, or they have never heard the term at all. Very few who have taken the poll know what it means. This is based on the 60+ responses I’ve gotten on the poll I made. It’s surprising to say the least! And that’s not a bad thing! That’s why I added the question! 😀 I like seeing directly what people think certain things mean!
So here’s an explanation of comship!
Comship is short for “complex shipping” or “complicated shipping” and it’s used to define ships that are considered taboo in real life. It is not the same as proship and it is used differently in a grammatical sense. Comships are “taboo ships”. A comshipper is someone who ships “problematic” pairings. Proship is not the same as comship, as proship is not a word used to define ships directly! It is a movement centered around not harassing people based on what ships they like! However, comship is a separate, independent term that does overlap with the proship community! Comship is a derivative of dark/taboo fiction whereas proship (and profiction) simply overlap with the genera due to the fact that many people who enjoy dark fiction are also anti-harassment and anti-censorship!
