Western society is culturally christian, and america specifically is heavily influenced by puritanical ideas.
The english speaking, culturally christian world largely
- valorizes and endorses violence
- shames and attaches guilt and disgust to sexuality
Military, police, punishment for crime, hell for sin = good
sex and enjoying our bodies and spreading erotic love = bad
