also, if you have a policy against artwork of underage characters in nsfw situations, there’s almost always some weird body-shaming angle to it. like, if a character looks underage they’ll get in trouble for it, too, not just if a character is listed as under 18. this happens pretty much anywhere that has these restrictions. even if you’re not engaging in that side of things, if you have a character with a slender body type, a babyface, from a short/childlike race (or has a medical condition where they appear younger), behave in a ~child coded~ (hate that term tbh) manner, and/or you have a cute/soft art style, you can get reported even if everything is according to the site’s standards.

I saw something horrid in the proship tag that upset me (not triggered but upset) They had tags but they had letters replaced so I couldn’t block it, I sent them a message about how they should tag properly and I hope I don’t see it again (general you) You have the right to make whatever you want but please make it so those who don’t want see it can avoid it.

I’m so confused (and a bit frustrated) so I hope you don’t mind if I mention this. I saw someone on twitter who identified as proship tell someone to kill themselves over the Welcome Home discourse and then proceeded to complain about antis in the fandom. Are they not an anti themselves??? I feel like anti has turned into “person I don’t like” in proship circles rather than people who actually go out of their way to be cruel or harass others over fiction. I’m relatively new to the proship community so I guess I’ve been a little taken aback at how common harassment seems to be over there, at least from my experience.

What I learned about antis ever since I entered fandom culture as an adult: some antis act entitled, some have the worst double standards, some are hypocrites, some are toxic (obviously), some victim blame real life victims, anti shipping is basically purity culture with extra steps, anti shipping is straight up condoning harassment towards someone because of what they consume in fiction, and of course, most antis are projecting their insecurities onto other proshippers.

Hey! I wanna give context about what the one user talking about the Straight Boyz MAP! (and then used the insult crumbbrained). (Background for those unaware:) Multiple Animator Projects are a popular form of content on YouTube, especially in the warrior cats fandom! Anywhere from 10 to upwards of 100 people come together to animate characters to a video, usually to a song. This video was about an edgy warrior cats ship to the song Straight Boyz, a vulgar song about gay sex. The video itself at worst showed two emo cats kissing with tongue, one being pinned down by the other, a cat standing on hind legs to air hump, and one animator drew a cat with fur that mimicked anime boobs. And at the start of the video were warnings about the contents. Antis blew up calling it disgusting, demanding it be taken down, claiming the video was zoophilia porn, and that it was exposing minors to traumatic things. I also want to mention that due to the nature of the warrior cat books having a lot of blood thirsty villains and battles, there are a lot of popular MAPs that show cats killing each other, dying in gruesome ways, and carnage. Sometimes without any warnings. And no complaints in sight.

Time for a funny! Woke up today to a new ask message. Strange thing for me as I’m quite a small blog and wasn’t on the day before to reblog any ask games. Turns out it’s an artist who’s work I’d reblogged, demanding I delete my reblog because their art wasn’t for proshippers and “so it’s not for people like you.” because that’s a totes normal thing to say to a stranger! Anyway! I replied privately and pointed out they could just… block me? Get back another ask ‘I’m not blocking you until you delete it!’ So I pointed out that when you post art publicly (especially with no DNI on the post, which there wasn’t!) you can’t control who interacts with it and if people you don’t like interact, you can just block them! Sent that reply privately, blocked the blog, and then deleted the art. Not because they asked me to, but because I don’t wanna be showcasing the art of anyone like that. Anyway, that was my morning, and I’m still giggling over “You have to delete your reblog of my art, it’s not for people like you!” (p.s. if you don’t want people reblogging your art and tagging it as ship, maybe don’t draw sisters in traditionally romantic angst poses?) -💚🪷🌞🌿🥈

I remember being a child, laying in bed at night, having all these dark fantasies about fiction, no one had told me or conditioned me to be like that, its just how I am. I remember wondering if it was just me, or if I was just uniquely weird. I can’t imagine how upset I would be if I found antiship when I was little, I would probably have fallen for it and gone through childhood thinking I was evil and should die. I was already called weird and not right constantly by people in my life.

Ugh that screenshot of that one anti just infuriates me… “how proship is related to TERF” my god. Just tell me you don’t know what any of those words mean and you think TERF is just shorthand for “person I don’t like”. Radical feminism is explicitly anti-porn, anti-kink, and anti-sex worker, and the arguments that they use are exactly the shit that antis preach about fictional characters because they’re the same arguments. TERFs (and religious anti-porn organizations) have openly stated, repeatedly, that fandom shipping wars are easy hunting ground for new recruits because its easy to get them to swallow those talking points specifically. Its literally part of the fucking radfem pipeline. They don’t even hide it. Like, I honestly hope these small creators know that if they’re known for going into fandom and squicking themselves out on works about their stuff they are opening themselves up to lawsuits in the future if their stuff goes big. Literally as a creator you *must* stay out of fandom. You *cannot* use ideas you have seen in fiction relating to your works without the possibility of lawsuit. Your only recourse is to take a hard stance to *never* engage with the fandom surrounding your works, lest it come to bite you later.

In regards to moderation with Toyhouse, the exception seems to be if you have a shit ton of links and proof in the report, it took less than 1 day for a report i made to be sorted, (it was a total of 56 uncredited reposted bases that I found and linked back the the original artists) I’m just saying this so others know to be cautious since they can take action quickly when they feel like it. Though I’m definitely questioning how they choose which reports to deal with considering others have complained their reports have been ignored for months.

It’s always weird to me. Like. I was exploited for years. From a really little age to well into my preteens by the same guys for literal years. I see antis really frequently equate what happened to me with what’s being done to someone who isn’t even a “someone.” They’re pixels, or lines, or paint strokes. It’s always been so weird. I used to be mad about it. I think I’ve grown comfortably numb. I just can’t be bothered to try anymore in regards to it all. They don’t care. They just want something to hold up and go “look, I’m right! I’m protecting these people, it makes me right!” But they aren’t right, and I never asked for their help. They’re white knights, but instead of trying to court “female approval,” they’re cultivating a culture which allows them to trample whoever they don’t like on the grounds of “moral superiority.”

the post about ‘toxic relationships in fiction =/= proshipping’ infuriated me because it’s so elitist and weird to assume the intentions of fan creators to be uniquely sordid whereas published authors get to write about anything. there are decades worth of scholarship for horror fiction alone pointing out its tendencies to sexually titillate as well as frighten. all I would like as a fan is to be approached with the same level of maturity and good faith as any professionally published artist, and that includes the sexual element of my art.

Here’s my views on fiction and shipping: sometimes yeah, certain ships are things I fantasize about that I do want in real life, like friends to lovers, having a partner who is nurturing, having a partner who always checks on you during sex to make sure they’re not hurting you or if you want to withdraw from it, having a partner that doesn’t judge you for your kinks, being a dominant or submissive (I’m a switch) for any character I like, I could go on. Other times however, when I ship things like enemies to lovers, shipping a hero with a villain (like a Batman and Catwoman dynamic), a ship involving one of the characters in the ship being a psychopath, Yanderes, super aloof characters in a ship, it’s because I like it more in fiction, because if I tried to translate that into reality, it would be an absolute nightmare. So when I do consume fanfics, there’s sometimes truths in my tastes, but not always. I hope this makes sense, because I’m not too sure on how I explained this! 😅
