Ngl I didn’t know about the word Aplatonic until today. Once more you all continue to educate and evolve as always!I’ve also been told the same with regard to ‘most people don’t want to cuddle or kiss their friends’ but like…I just…?? I want to love my friends fully. To me romantic and platonic love are hard to parse too but I just know that hey, I love my friends!! I wanna cuddle them through good and bad times!!! I wanna celebrate with them!!! If that means kissing then fuck it, we kiss!!!!I still love my partner dearly though too, but life feels too short to waste it trying to parse the differences of platonic or romantic love; I will love freely because my life would suck if I couldn’t!

Wait are you saying that people don’t usually want to kiss and cuddle and even sleep with their friends?I mean the sex thing for me is a little different because I’m asexual and hypersexual so for me sex is just a fun activity and a coping mechanism not at all related to any feelings of attraction. I don’t really care who I do it with. I mean that doesn’t mean that I don’t care for the people I sleep with or that i don’t find them very alluring, I do, it’s just like…I don’t have a particular preference for who I draw with or who I watch a movie with either, you know?But for kissing and cuddling, I… don’t think there are friends I don’t want to do that with? Like I’ve always considered it kinda an automatic thing? Like the line between platonic and romantic relationships is very thin and fluid to me? Also possibly because I have BPD and most of my relationships feel REALLY intense to me no matter if they’re romantic or platonic.

…the way you described aplatonic has made me. realize. i might be that. because the whole ‘cant distinguish between romatic and platonic’ is so real for me.. ive literally described myself with that.

Hey I have a system member who is aplatonic and your post about being aplatonic really struck a cord with it (in a good way.) We, especially the specific system member, hardly see other people who are aplatonic. Your experience is slightly different from it since it’s both aroace and aplatonic but it was still nice to see.💗

Being aplatonic is such an odd place to be, I hope you don’t mind me musing on it in your inbox. The one person I’d call a friend of mine is someone who I used to have romantic feelings for, for like the first five years we knew each other. My romantic feelings did go away, leaving the closeness and loyalty built up by all those years, so I have a love for him that I can only call friendship… but he’s the only person I’ve ever felt that with. Like, IS that what platonic love is? And if I’m honest I still have occasional flare-ups (for lack of a better word) of romantic feelings.And I have a lot of people I would say are what you defined as ‘buddies’, who I’ve known for years. I’m happy to talk with and spend time with them, and I wish them the best, but I don’t feel… warm towards them. I’m not cold, I’m just not warm, I recognize that I do not love them.It’s a confusing place to be, lol.
