You ever just come across a fic with tags you’re iffy about at first but then read on anyways? And then the story is so good that by the end of it, it instantly hits you that the author used the wrong tags?Cause that happened to me once, I read a really good fic awhile back and by the end of it something didn’t feel right. And it was the tags. I thought to myself, “…Honey no, you wrote agre, not dumbification.”
To me this sounds like a case of the reader interpreting the text in a way other than the interpretation that the original author intended.
Which is always totally fine. The author is “dead” after all.
This is exactly the reason why you can’t assume you know that someone is trying to “glorify” or “glamorize” a dark topic when they write about it.
The text is always up to interpretation. The text can always be read in a way the author did not intend.
