I’m a cashier who has to check people’s IDs before they buy alcohol and cigarettes. See when I do it, I have to make sure that the individual isn’t underage when they make a horrible decision. And if they do after I just checked them out, I’m legally held accountable. When you(gen)do it online with not proper training mandatory by the law for fandom shit, you’re going too far. People like me and bartenders are actually given the responsibility and are held accountable if it goes wrong. You(gen)on the other hand, is just asking to get arrested for fraud and/or endangerment if the individual is a minor.

Then again, the quantity of content on TikTok for the fandoms I’m in is easy to make over quality. So the creators that got chanced out on here aren’t on TikTok either due to the anti take over. So we all lose here unless we use AO3.

lemme rant about requiring ids in nsfw spaces. “it’s like showing your ID to the bartender!” you… don’t exactly know if the messenger truly deleted and your ‘pressed deleted’ post is still probably in some serverspace from discord. i bet you discord will be ‘will send the government info for dollars’. and the actual bartender does not look into ids to take advantage of drivers license ids and addresses in any meaningful way

I’m in a small fandom and I haven’t posted in a long time. I want to come back, but I don’t want my activity, no matter how small, to be seen as an automatic invitation to hit me up just because I’m online, especially when I don’t feel up to chatting. It’s because of this I’m not active. I have a friend who is really persistent in getting my attention, and talking with him is now a chore since he won’t let me alone. If we don’t exchange a message for a few days, he WILL DM me to ask if I’m alive. Literally. It’s always “Are you alive? You alive over there? You alive?” It’s relentless. The last straw was when he DM’d me in all caps to ask (what else) if I was alive and beg me “PLEASE TALK TO MEEE!!!” with crying emojis and I lost sleep because I was so angry. I told him to stop, and I’m taking a fucking break from the chat app. He reasoned we only have the chat app so when he doesn’t hear from me he gets worried, but dude. It’s a few days. Not even a week. Days. Let me fucking breathe! I don’t talk to my friends for weeks and months and even years, and we’re still friends because they don’t smother me or obligate me to talk to them. We talk when we talk. Or we don’t. After I told him I was taking a break from the chat app (I wasn’t, but I was hoping that would deter him if he knows I won’t be looking at it) he just started sending me things every few days. Still does. Art he’s done or random fandom things (for fandoms I’m not even in). I’m gone a (1) month, I got 20+ messages waiting for me to look at thanks to him. When I do the “saw this, thought of you! Here!” thing, it’s maybe 5 messages at most, not 20+. The longest I’ve gone without a DM from him is maybe six days. The very last time I posted on tumblr (a few weeks ago iirc), I got a DM from him 20 minutes later saying “saw you posting! You feeling better?” on the chat app. Like holy shit my guy! Please let me breathe! I blocked him on tumblr. I don’t have the balls to block him on the chat app. I’m too tired to make a new account there (plus all my stuff is there), or go through and delete the thousands upon thousands of DMs from my side of our conversations since we’ve spoken almost every single day for the past year (until recently ofc), and I’m scared he’ll find out and confront me about it. I really want to be involved in fandom again, and tbh he’s the only one from our old group I still talk to, but I’m really starting to regret keeping this relationship at all. He still talks to the old group even though one of them accused him of being a pedo (not the first time btw) so it’s not like I’m his only source for company. We don’t even talk about anything “adult” between us. I’m just… so tired of feeling obligated to talk when I not only don’t have anything to say, but just don’t want to. Any advice?

Not even as callout posts, which speaking of – they mostly serve as warnings or virtue signaling hey that person is doing something bad. But honestly? This will be the last time I talk about these two, but I just wanna say my final piece here because of how upsetting it all is. I’m really let down and disappointed that the writer I like started saying anti rhetoric because there aren’t many fic authors that write specifically for black readers. I know, reader inserts try to make the reader’s appearance as ambiguous as possible so you can really insert yourself into the story. But with reader inserts where the reader is black really makes it feel like we are thought about when the writer is making a story, especially when the stories are about issues unique to black readers. So seeing them say shit that antis constantly say was a huge let down. And it was rhetoric from a group that has directly attacked me for my race of all things. I wish the best for them, but I literally back out when someone who’s content I enjoy aligns with a group that causes me discomfort. And it also confuses me a bit, because I could’ve sworn they started following me back and I openly talked about how I’m on the proship side of things. I’m more pissed off at the writer who was asking for people’s ID just to read their nsfw content than disappointed. I’m a bit disappointed because they wrote non-con that wasn’t just arousing, but they wrote non-con stories where it can still be pretty horrific, yet still has hurt/comfort elements in it. Something I really enjoy and would like to see more about as a victim. I even was inspired by one of their stories and attempted to write a oneshot based on it that I never finished. But now, I’m contemplating on if I should even finish it or just delete it after the shit they pulled. It irritates me a lot because for one, you don’t do that, that shit is sus and may or may not be illegal. But I even called them out on it and they doubled down about it. And then when I thought that they changed, I find that that fucking google doc link is still there. After that, I was just down with there shit. Do I wish to have seen the end of their ongoing series? Yes, but I’m not gonna keep giving support to someone if they’re gonna have no respect for their readers. All because “MDNI” wasn’t enough for them. That’s all I’m gonna say about that and I’m gonna end this with kinda a favor here, do you know any fanfic writers on tumblr who are proship and write for Demon Slayer and My Hero Academia? And if they also write for black coded readers?

SEEING THE “SHOW ME YOUR ID” STUFF IS FUCKING CRAZY TO ME?!?! I started seeing it crop up a few years ago. It was back when I was still writing Canon x Reader for Haikyuu. I watched a fellow author talk about starting a NSFW Discord Server but needing people to show their IDs to make sure no minors got in. To the anon asking for these authors names, I don’t wanna say who they are. The one who started saying anti shit was really nice and I don’t wanna have them get any harassment over it. I’m just disappointed that they would be an anti. Now the other one with the ID crap, idk. On one hand, they need to be called out, but I did call them out publicly for it. And I guess they didn’t listen because that survey is still there for everyone to see and take. And then on the other, I also don’t want them to get unwanted harassment either. So no, I’m not name dropping them, I surprisingly have slight empathy for these two that I don’t want them to get harassment sent their way. I know the proship community knows better than most, but this is a precaution for those who misuse the label to do such things.

I think something that could work as a way to confirm age in something like a discord server is if there was some form widely used online age-verification service so you can do the equivalent of showing your id before being let into a bar.

Previous anon here, yes, they were asking for people’s IDs. They have in their pinned post a link to a google doc survey where you answer questions in order for them to tag you in a fic they wrote. The literal last question in that survey was, “Do you have a form of identification?” Followed by, “DM me with your birthday on your ID unless I personally know you (for nsfw works)” It’s bad enough you’re asking for people’s IDs, strangers on the internet might I add. But it’s worse when your justification here is, “So minors don’t see my work.” Because it actually doesn’t what you’re writing at this point, you’re literally teaching minors that anyone is entitled to their private information like that. Even corporations know better than that, come on.

I actually had to unfollow two authors I love.
